Digital connectivity is playing an incredible role in creating women entrepreneurs: Telecom Minister
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said that digital connectivity is playing an immeasurable role in empowering women by creating women entrepreneurs. Acquiring digital skills is essential for everyone to adapt to the transformation taking place in Bangladesh as a result of the implementation of the Digital Bangladesh programme. The big challenge for Bangladesh is to acquire the skills of the fifth industrial revolution. For that purpose, the minister urged all concerned to work together.
The minister made this call while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the Digital Hub for Women Entrepreneurs named WE HELP to create opportunities for women entrepreneurs under the initiative of SME Foundation in Dhaka on Thursday (September, 14).
Chairman of the SME Foundation Dr. Md. Masudur Rahman presided over the event while Industry Secretary Zakia Sultana, Head of Gender Equity and Social Inclusion Section of UNESCAP Chai Chai, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Gyan Lewis, Senior Development Officer of Canada High Commission in Bangladesh Rita Hukayem, SAARC Business Council Bangladesh President Mantasha Ahmed, UNESCAP Program Manager Sudha Gotti spoke at the event.
Post and Telecommunication Minister urged women entrepreneurs to prepare for the 5th industrial revolution and said that millions of women entrepreneurs have joined digital commerce. This pioneer of digital technology development described his 37 years of experience in digital technology and said that the Prime Minister spoke about the need for smart people to implement the Smart Bangladesh programme. In 2021, we have crossed the Digital Bangladesh target announced on December 12, 2008. We have started the journey to reach another dream destination of building Smart Bangladesh by 2041.
Highlighting the success of women entrepreneurs in digital commerce, the minister said, our girls will make an important contribution in advancing smart civilization if they get a suitable environment. Our girls are ahead in every field including business, industry and administration. Half of the country's population is women, as a result of creating an opportunity to turn this population into a public resource, Bangladesh is moving forward with incredible success in every indicator of development.
The minister pointed out the immense role of mothers in creating human resources suitable for the digital age and said that mothers are the makers of their children's future. The minister mentioned the WE Help platform as a very important platform for women entrepreneurs. He said that information is more valuable than gold in today's world. He said, getting information services from a platform and having the opportunity to communicate on this platform in a language they understand is a wonderful thing. He wished the initiative success and advised to keep the platform updated regularly.
In the event, the Industry Secretary said that smart industrialization is necessary for smart Bangladesh. He emphasized the need of training for women entrepreneurs and said that training will contribute very fruitfully for women entrepreneurs.
